FAQ - Nutrifresh-D

Q1
:
What is Nutrifresh-D?
A1
:
Like Nutrifresh, Nutrifresh-D has a low glycemic index. The soy in Nutrifresh-D is equally beneficial to those on a restricted sugar diet. The American Diabetes Association recommends soy protein for diabetics as it does not burden the kidneys. Recent research indicates that soy may be as effective as some diabetic medications. In addition, soy’s glycemic index is only 18, making it suitable for those on low-sugar diets.

Q2
:
Can Nutrifresh replace Nutrifresh-D?
A2
:
No. Nutrifresh and Nutrifresh-D have different effects and ingredients as well as different production methods. Nutrifresh-D is specially formulated to cater to those on low sugar diets or with special dietary needs. Nutrifresh-D is an alternative for those unable to consume Nutrifresh.

Q3
:
Why are many fruits and vegetables present in Nutrifresh and EverNew but not in Nutrifresh-D?
A3
:
This is because many fruits contain fructose, which causes a slight rise in blood glucose level. Nutrifresh-D is specially formulated for those with special dietary needs or on a low-sugar diet, thus it does not contain any ingredient that may cause blood glucose level to rise.

Many diabetics are more concerned with a food’s glycemic index, and not just the amount of sugar it contains. The glycemic index is the rate at which blood glucose levels rise. For example, glucose has a glycemic index of 100 because consuming glucose causes an immediate spike in blood glucose levels. Most foods eventually turn into glucose, but if we eat foods such as rice or bread, it takes longer for our system to turn it into glucose and raise our blood glucose levels. Hence, the lower the glycemic index, the better it is for diabetics.

Processing methods can affect the glycemic index. Here are different types of rice and their corresponding glycemic index:
• Parboiled rice: 47
• Brown rice: 59
• White rice: 88
• Instant rice: 91 (cooked and dried)
The harvesting time of plants will also affect the glycemic index, as illustrated below:
• Banana picked unripe: 30
• Ripe banana: 62

Q4
:
Why are Nutrifresh-D and EverNew-D more expensive than Nutrifresh even though they do not contain many fruits and vegetables?
A4
:
The manufacture of Nutrifresh-D and EverNew-D utilizes more manpower and resources and involves advanced technologies. Nutrifresh and EverNew-D are suitable for people on low-sugar diets and are different products from Nutrifresh.

Q5
:
Why can’t Nutrifresh-D be available in many different flavors like Nutrifresh?
A5
:
Nutrifresh-D cannot use certain fruits and vegetables, and its manufacture process is more complicated. Hence, it cannot come in many different flavors like Nutrifresh.

Q6
:
Why does Nutrifresh-D have a lighter taste?
A6
:
Nutrifresh-D caters to the specific needs of those on a restricted sugar diet. It is low in sugar, has a low glycemic index and does not contain artificial sweetener, thus it has a lighter taste.

Some foods are not sweet when consumed but they are eventually converted into glucose in the body. Hence, a food’s glycemic index, and not its sweetness, is more important to diabetics when it comes to food selection. The glycemic index is affected by many factors such as the types of food and the different cooking methods.

Q7
:
Is the soy used in Nutrifresh and Nutrifresh-D genetically modified?
A7
:
No.

Q8
:
Under what circumstances should I switch from Nutrifresh to Nutrifresh-D?
A8
:
Nutrifresh-D is suitable for those on a low-sugar diet or those who do not like sweet food.

Soy protein is recommended by the American Diabetes Association as it does not burden the kidneys. Nutrifresh-D can help supplement the body with soy protein.

Q9
:
If I have no special dietary need, why should I consume Nutrifresh-D?
A9
:
Nutrifresh-D is not sweet. It can be taken with sweeter products such as Li-Dan or Herba.
